Nearly 150 years have passed since the first English immigrants began the history of polo in Argentina, which later became one of the most competitive countries in the world. This was due not only to the skill of its players but also to significant advancements in genetics and breeding techniques. The excellent qualities of Argentine horses made the country the leading producer of polo horses, creating a new native breed known as Polo Argentino. Renowned worldwide for its speed, robustness, and great technique, this breed is the result of crossing Thoroughbreds with local mixed-breed horses. Over time, some of the most important and traditional polo clubs in the country were founded, starting with Hurlingham in 1888, which was the first winner of the Argentine Open Polo Championship. This championship eventually became the most prestigious tournament in the world. The excellent level of Argentine polo quickly gained recognition, and the Triple Crown, with its three venues (Hurlingham, Tortugas, and Palermo), became the dream of every player.
